The workshop "Imagine the Future" is a part of collaborative art project "The Formosa Experiment" initiated by Berlin-based artist Verena Kyselka.
The experimental film featured in a comparative way experiences of contemporary history and future visions of Taiwanese and (East) German culture. Based on a fictional story the findings of investigation in an intercultural encounter and exchange to investigate more the identity of Taiwanese inhabitants.
The research questions for the film are: How would you explain an alien the territory you live in? When you are the only survivor from a submerged island, what would you tell your own story about the tragedy?
Starting from the oral history collected from Grandparents or other family members, the coming workshop focuses on artists' personal experiences and subjective approaches to a longstanding history of dictatorship and heteronomy in their homelands.
To shape a memory is just like to shape the future. Imagined that a new island appears and you are the first settler who can build our own history and put our daydream inside. How would it look and how would it sound?
In the first part of the workshop, different ways to connect private/public memories will be presented and discussed with the artists. After that, participants are invited to do their own research and visualize their ideas. These ideas would be included in the experimental film through co-working with artists.
